The last few days we are staying at a hotel in Melbourne. Melbourne is a very nice city. We walked around and did some shopping, especially for wool products. Not much we can show you from these days with pictures. But the last day we visited Phillip Island to see the Fairy
penguins
. About 200 of them came ashore that evening, but we were not allowed to take any pictures or video. The flashes would have disturbed them enough that after a while they would no longer come here.

Time to go home
It was time to go home. We left at 11:20 on the morning of August 24, made a stop in New Zealand (more shopping on the airport) and arrived in New York after a 24 hour trip at 10:22 in the evening of the same day. Our limo home picked us up. By the time we were home, it was Saturday August 25. It was good to be back home and in our own house. We had one weekend to recover from the jetlag and unpack. Then it was back to work and time to start thinking about what we will do in 2006!

We will conclude this story with one picture of our flight home. As you can see, we concluded the trip in style with one more meal of lamb chops and a couple of glasses of Dom Perignon.
During these days, we made a trip driving along the Great Ocean Road. A coast like this that sees a lot of rough weather makes some very pretty sights. The most famous area is the Twelve Apostles. These twelve (there are only ten actually) rocks were left standing in the water when the rock around them eroded away. Eventually they will all be gone too, but there will be new ones where the tourists are standing now. Below are two pictures, one made in the rain and one a couple of minutes later after the sun came out.

Melbourne
On August 18, we traveled from Dunk Island to Melbourne. We were there for 5 days. The first 3 nights we stayed a little south of Melbourne in Apollo Bay. We rented a cottage in
Claerwen Retreat
. While we were in this part of Australia the weather was very different than what we had experienced so far. While it is winter in all of Australia (and technically in Bali and Singapore) in the northern parts winter weather is very mild, like in Florida or the Mediterranean. Now we were in an area where it was cold and very windy and where it seemed to rain every hour. Two days before we arrived a hurricane had past through and there was a lot of debris on the roads and we saw many fallen trees, including some very large ones. But even though it was cold, this weather has its own attraction. Below you can see pictures of us braving it at the ocean. Look at the picture of the boys; wished that they always were such nice brothers.
