That evening we had an Indonesian 'rijsttafel' dinner. The translation of that name would be 'rice table'. Of course you get lots of rice, but there are around 25 other dishes with meats, vegetables and other sides.
We got a visit by Ramira and Nolan, her American partner who moved to the Netherlands a year ago and now has his own fitness bussiness here. There was some beach time first and then Ramira and Stephanie went shopping and came back with quiet a load.
The again it was time to move on, now to Scheveningen where we checked in in the same Carton hotel we 'always' do. It is a very nice hotel, right on the beach and they have family suites that can easily accomodate a family with 2 or 3 children. below is a picture taken from our balcony. The next morning started with a walk on the beach. Shells can be found in large quatitites here. The piece of beach glass we found is actually very uncommon.
2009 trip to Netherlands and France
part 2

In July we went to Europe to visit Diederik's family in the Netherlands and France. We also took time for some beach time and to see a few things in Paris. This is part 2 of the report.

So we left Deventer and drove to Utrecht to visit Helly and her family. After we met them at home, went downtown for some activities. Some of us went to a musical clock and street organ museum; the rest climbed the Dom Tower. The first picture is of one of the street organs in the mudeum. This street organ, named The Arab, was still playing/working in Groningen when Diederik was going to the University there.
The other people (Nathan, Stephen, Paul, Rueben and Dorien) climbed the Dom Tower. As you can see on one of the pictures, the tower is no longer attached to the cathedral, because long ago a part collapsed and was never rebuild.
After all these activities, we went to Rhijnauwen, where they have a play gound and another pancake restaurant.

During dinner it started to poor, but we had lucked out during the day.
The next day Diederik took Jordan for a walk on the beach. The water was pretty cold, but it was low tide and then there are many shallow areas that are warm enough to swim. Dress code is very relaxed on large parts of the beach away from the boardwalk. Once Jordan had had enough, they went for some apple pie right on the beach.
More beach time the next day.

The last day, the weather was not great, but that didn't stop Jordan and Diederik from taking a walk on the beach and the pier. Jordan found a small hermit crab crawling in the shallow water.
